ADDERBURY INSTITUTE RESTORATION

ADDERBURY INSTITUTE'S MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE HAS BEGUN A £25,000 PROJECT FOR URGENT REPAIRS

Adderbury Institute was opened in 1898 and has acted as a social centre for the village for more than 100 years.  Today it remains the home of the Adderbury Theatre Workshop, Adderbury Scouts, the Over 60s, a whole host of parties and social events, and is a village asset available for use by all residents. However, time has not been kind to the building and the management committee has commenced some very urgent maintenance repairs.  This critical work includes:

  • Replacement of the kitchen flat-roof (now complete)
  • Installation of a damp proof course
  • Re-pointing of the west wall
  • Upgrading of the guttering and drain pipes
  • Removal of the south chimney and re-pointing of the west chimney (now complete)
  • Internal plastering/decorating and repairs to the internal dado panels
  • Replacement of the heating system to prevent future degradation

This key maintenance was costed at around £25,000.   A number of grant applications have been made and generous donations towards the project received from groups and individuals.

Anyone wishing to directly assist the Committee in this endeavour would be most welcome and are invited to contact the Chairman Andy Green on 01295 810521.

For those wishing to make a financial contribution towards our £25,000 target now our Treasurer Dr David White would be delighted to receive cheques (payable to “Adderbury Parish Institute”) at Placketts, High Street, Adderbury, Banbury, Oxon, OX17 3LS.
